boston

POST - TRANSLATION

boston is a little gem .... it'a a city where i could see myself living in and not only beacuse it's the city with harvard or because it hosts the oldest and most prestigiuos marathon in the states. it's also because it has the feel of a metropolis with its skyline, big streets, parks, great nightlife, theatre and all that but metropolis it isn't. 600,000 people live in it and it feels like a very livable city. the atmosphere is relaxed and the rythm of life seems calm, especially if you go there after a few days in NYC. you can walk everywhere but there is an excellent underground system and, as a matter of fact, traffic doesn't seem that crazy, at least not like in dublin. plus, being on the ocean you can eat nice fish: the specialties are lobesters and oysters and of course i couldn't resist neither of them.

among the places that we visited there was yet another italian neighborhood. but unlike the one in NYC this seems more authentic despite the saints everywhere (as you can see in the pics). streets are often named after some italo-bostonian hero.

there weren't many tourists. at times it seemed like we were the only two in town.

when I went to NYC i knew what to expect, more or less. NYC is the main character in many movies and TV series. it has certainly got a familiar air around it. we all know the names of its momunments and, as a matter of fact, we know what the monuments even look like. in boston it was very different. i knew nothing about it and everything was a surprise...every corner of it. sometimes not knowing allows you to appreciate the details. i didn't go there because i wanted to see this or that; i just wanted to walk around (and we walked quite a lot) to find out what it had to offer, without relying too much on the guide.

of course there were a few things that i wanted to do, like running there and joining the many many runners on the streets; see the finish line of the marathon which, by the way, is a permanent feature; visit a few running shops and go to the pub that inspired "cheers" (we had dinner there :-))

we found everything else in boston just by chance....it was an unusual experience...you never know, one day there might be a job available at harvard :-)
